In addition to measuring changes in extremely weak static (DC or "natural") electric and magnetic fields, the NATURAL EM METER gives a readout of radio/microwave signal strength in mW/cm² and has and audible alarm. Of the Trifield family of meters, this is the only one I have personally used. It is useful for some things in my work, but for mobile measurements I don't regard it as highly as other paranormal researchers.

In ghost detecting work, it's legendary sensitivity generally demands that you keep it stationary and isolated, in which case it's weak audible alert and hard to read in the dark / at a distance meter movement are a serious impediment. Since this is a DC meter, be aware that it will pick up the Earth's magnetic field when moved or rotated suddenly.

This is one of the better inexpensive meters on the market. It has a fast response time, wide range and visible in the dark. Very easy to use, but you have to hold down on the button constantly and it only reads in one axis. Narrow detection range and limited accuracy too.

There are some who like and use this meter, but I find the Cell Sensor meter to be a little better overall. It's tricky to use this one correctly as you have to be careful how you hold it and the range is switched by hitting the activation switch again. One of my favorite reference meters, it combines great non-frequency weighted RMS accuracy, broad range, fast response time and an easy to read display.

The ONLY downside is that the power switch is located on the side and it has a very nasty habit of getting switched on accidentally. This combined with it's inexplicable power drain characteristics (it will drain within a day) means that I have spent a LOT on 9V batteries with this thing. It might be worth getting a set of rechargeables for this particular model.

Want to measure fields up to 2000 mG with 0.01 mG resolution without breaking the bank? Need to measure freight for IATA complaince? This is the meter.

4½ digit display with two ranges: +/- 1999.9 and +/- 199.99 mG. Updates three times per second. Because the Earth's ambient field is typically about 500 mG, three "offset" controls allow you to add or subtract up to 600 mG with precision of .01 mG. Therefore, the Earth's field can be subtracted out when required. If reading in the more sensitive 199.99 range, this field neutralization feature is often necessary, because the field is usually stronger than 200 mG.

The wide dynamic range of the display, along with the large range of offset and high stability of the meter, allow for stable detection of small changes in a large background field. On the higher sensitivity range, changes of .01 mG can be reproducibly measured in up to +/- 800 mG of background field. On the lower sensitivity range, absolute field of 0.1 mG resolution can be measured in up to +/- 1999.9 mG of background field.

The "axial" sensor is at the end of an eight-wire cable that is four feet, which means it detects the component of the field that's in the same direction as the cable points. The meter reads negative when pointing toward a magnet’s south pole and positive when pointing toward north. At only 1 mm x 0.2 mm, the active sensor area is much smaller than most other sensors, allowing very precise magnetic measurements in small areas (such as thin films) or with high gradients, when necessary.

This chamber can be used with the KiloGaussmeter or Geomagnetometer to provide a zero gauss (magnetic field-free environment) reference, enabling you to take absolute readings of the ambient magnetic field (the Earth's magnetic field is typically around 500 mG). Concentric welded 12" long tubes (½" ID chamber) with stand, made of high permeability Mumetal provide excellent shielding.

For serious research and reference work with DC magnetometer readings.
